Catarina Teixeira (b. 1988, Portugal) discovered her passion for crafts at an early age.
With a degree in Design from IADE–UE, her artistic journey has been shaped by a deep-seated love for experimentation and creativity.
In early 2018, Catarina found herself drawn to the art of tapestry, which soon became her primary passion and purpose.
“It’s through my art that I express myself, that I let my emotions flow, elevating my mind and creativity.”
Her artistic style is characterized by a commitment to sustainability, utilizing natural fibers and materials in her weaving. Preferring raw and earthy tones, she seeks inspiration from the textures, forms and energy found in nature, translating them into her tapestry works.
“I like to explore. And I love how my art doesn’t limit me to just one style or art form. I enjoy making larger tapestries, full of movement, energy, textures, folds and layers, as much as I enjoy making smaller tapestries on paper, in a more abstract, geometric and minimalist way.”
For Catarina, art is a means of expression and self-discovery, a sanctuary where she celebrates life’s victories and finds peace in challenging times. She approaches her creative process with both structure and spontaneity, allowing her ideas to evolve organically as she weaves.
“It’s my meditation, my calm… and my euphoria too. The creative process is often chaotic – with fibers, needles and scissors everywhere. But at the same time calm, as it is an art that requires to slow down and do things calmly and with no rush”
With a desire to share her art with a wider community, Catarina aims to create warm and inviting spaces through her tapestry works. She wants to evoke a range of emotions in viewers, fostering a sense of wonder and connection with each piece. Ultimately, her art is a celebration of freedom of expression and creative liberty, inviting individuals to interpret her work in their own unique way.
“The feeling that each piece conveys to each person is different. And that’s just amazing”.
